Tire size 300SDL

Not a huge issue, but who knows, might be some reason to go with factory specs. When I bought my car the previous owner had 215/60R15s all around.

Two are still in pretty good shape, two need replacing. The owners manual specifies 205/65 R15.

I found this on the web, comparing the two. They’re pretty close:

https://www.tacomaworld.com/tirecalc?tires=205-65r15-215-60r15

Anybody know a compelling reason to go one way or the other? I was thinking to put the two new ones on the front, although if the two remaining tires that are in good shape are not almost exactly the same diameter, perhaps I should put the new ones on the rear.

Running different size tires can mess with the ABS system. Pick one or the other, but make all 4 the same size.

The 215 is a little wider but the 60 isn't as tall.

So it is up to you.

Not sure I'll rely on ABS in this climate, especially this time of year though it could happen, say a rain after a long dry spell.

Good call, I wasn't sure what I'd do but I found two primo 215/60R15s at Pick-n-Pull, which matches the others. I'm sure some here will think me nuts but you can find some good tires if you look carefully. There are two good yards on my routes, I found this pair for $90, though with added viro fees and tax came to $105. Date stamp is 2015, nary a scuff on them, no plugs, no cracking. Sumitomo, a decent brand.

Doesn't matter whether you think you need ABS or not, it's there. If you mismatch tires, it will trigger ABS to engage unexpectedly.

Wider tires give you better cornering, skinny tires give you better starting traction. Going up one plus size is a waste of time.

Good to know, this is only my second vehicle with ABS. My first, an E30 Bimmer, I think was somewhat dysfunctional. I put significantly larger tires on the rear - the speedo was off, I calculated the diameter I would need to bring it in line, this from comparing my displayed speed to that on those roadside large radar speed display signs and it worked. But no ABS difficulties.

Let me add that I put larger tires on front for a while but I noticed that the brakes weren't as strong as with smaller tires. I looked at the geometry of it and smaller tires are going to exert stronger stopping power per unit of tire area touching the road.
