'83 240D Valve Cover Removal - Linkage Trouble
Hi all,
I've removed most of the linkage from the valve cover of my manual '83 240D, but can't seem to figure out how to remove this last rod connecting part of the linkage toward the firewall: https://i.imgur.com/NKmUwRG.jpg I've seen this process referred to in this thread, where the first reply makes note of needing to remove the rod between marks #4 and #5. However, this rod seems much more straightforward to remove on the 300D than it does on my car - mine has a forked design rather than a single point of connection. Does anyone have an idea of how to safely remove this rod so I can get the cover off? Thank you! |
There should be an e-clip, or something like that, on the left side of the rod. On the right side of the rod (closest to firewall), there's a pin you can pull out. You can then pull the rod away from that bushing.

I usually leave the rod on the firewall and just disconnect the fork on the end.

You can just leave it attached and pull it off the fork when you lift the cover up.
