Just what all gets the MB sunroof grease?

I know it's the only product MB recommends for the side rails but...does
section of the cable with teflon spacers or the end of the cable which goes into the motor get this special grease? If not then what lubricant is specified for these?

My sunroof was making noise a few months ago. I got a little of that stuff from my local mechanic and applied it to the outward facing channel of the roof rails. There's the inner channel which faces toward the sunroof itself and the outer channel which faces the windows of the car. No issues since.

Is that the stuff on the end of the cables?

Apologies, totally misread. The advice I got was to remove the whole cable and put the grease inside the sleeve it rides in. Disconnect from the roof and from the motor which I guess involves removing the headliner which I was not game to do.

I have the roof and the cable on the bench. I just didn't know what all lubes with the MB grease.

I also have an issue with the sliding tube which attaches to the metal SR panel. The inside has a film of rust and probably a little grease in it. I have no idea what will clean the inside of the tube(s).

I'm considering removing the motor, sucking liquid carb cleaner up through the tube and rinsing it like that. I won't quit until this is done correctly. I am obsessed with this right now.

Exclamation

Be very wary of using carby cleaner ! .

It attacks the rubber and plastic bits not o mention your kidneys and liver.....

I use starting fluid to very good effect, it leaves zero residue as well .

Keep us posted .

I should have done photos of this. I looked through the DYI yesterday and there's only information about drains. My guide was the online FSM. The pictures there are horrible and some things weren't covered in the w126 listing.

BTW, I bought a 1/4" diameter, 66" hose brush designed to clean out a draft beer hose. It was 10 bucks so if it works I can use a solvent on the tube which is much less danger to have inside a car body. I should be able to spray some run it through the roof end of the tube and brush it up its rear end. I could call the pictorial 'Mechanical enema for a Benz sunroof tube.'

First Google then a variety of websites. Since the pipe from the trunk is defined by the way the diameter is measured I called it a tube.

The pictures led me to the manufacturer's website which led me to e bay.

I'm missing a one of the sliding pads.

The counterpart to the plastic piece in the center of the photo is not on the other side of the roof panel. The metal holding tab is there. Any idea where to get this part?

I got the motor off and opened it up.

I can't tell if it's the MB SR paste or not, here's the pics:

The motor gearing uses regular grease, best to leave that alone. The sunroof grease is for the sliding mechanism, not the drive motor.

How long is the tube? And what is it's inside diameter? Might well find some form of firearm bore cleaning rig that would do the job.
