Honda Civic kept mechanical lifters for a very long time. At least well into the 2000s I think.


The test is listening for any adjustments that are too loose. I am not certain if and when they were discontinued. Yet are not really subject to checks generally.

They're still using them. They're bucket lifters with shims instead of the locknut and movable stem. Because they're bucket lifters, the wear is significantly less than a rocker-arm setup due to the spread out load.
