PS Pump wing nut leak?
Rebuilt PS pump, seals are good, even got the paper gasket for the reservoir
BUT still finding PS fluid residue on the body. Finally found the leak and it's actually coming up through the center post that holds the spring. It's seaping right past the wing nut that holds down the reservoir cap... I don't think there's ever been a gasket/washer or anything here. Has anyone had this issue? I'm not sure what to use. A neoprene washer?

Filter is installed and clean? Later models e.g. 1991 use a large plastic nut with a base seal, may fix the leak but not circa correct. Good luck!!!

Yep -Total rebuild. The wingnut is metal however and does not have a base washer if that makes sense. On other 123 pumps I’ve seen a different kind of locking mechanism… Not sure if this had one initially and was replaced with a cheap wing nut by a previous owner

No one else having/had this issue? Seems like a cap with a gasket is a better choice here than a wing nut?

I'd suspect you have the reservoir way overfilled if the fluid is even getting up that high. My SL has the same type cap you describe and it doesn't leak a drop. The reservoir should not be full, you should have about a half inch of headroom in there. Unless you're driving off road or rolling the car, it's impossible for the fluid to get up that high during normal operation.

I have it right below the line... Seems to be the correct level.

Look at what happens when you idle the car with the top removed. Fluid shouldn't be so turbulent that it comes near the top. Fluid near the bottom is turbulent but the top is relatively calm. I was surprised the 1st time I noticed this but that has been the case across vehicles.
Where did you get the kit? Send me a pm if the source gets censored.

I actually bought the rebuild kit from our sponsor. Initially the leak points were the front and rear seals. It's a very minor amount of PS fluid I'm finding and doesn't really affect the level in any noticeable way. It's just that after degreasing, I keep finding the top cover a little oily after a long drive and I can see the threads on the post where the PS fluid has worked its way up.
