The most recent orphan I brought home had an incontinence problem that the previous owner let fester for several years. An extremely thick layer of congealed engine oil combined with road dust covered the left valve cover and front part of the engine - and pooled into a virtual lake of viscous goo on the upper front lip of the oil pan. (M112 engine.) I bought several bottles of “orange power” (or similar name) spray cleaner from the 99-cent store. That stuff was amazing. It melted the goo like a microwave oven melts a stick of butter.

I’m tempted to stock up on that stuff before the California regulators get wind of it and ban it. (As they’ve seemingly done with any & all effective chemical products!) I’ll order some of the stuff from Sam’s Club to complete my arsenal too. Thanks guys!

Simple green is good stuff to be sure but there's _zero_ comparison .

To - day I got some help from one of my Foster boys and we sat on milk crates with brushes & a squeeze bottle of this stuff and diligently worked away, the concrete hasn't been this clean in about a year .

I think next time I'll use my bush broom with it to clean & de grease the entire apron all at once .

Tempted to try this out. I should have all of my leaks quashed very soon. It's been a battle. I've been having to maintain cleanliness on a bi-weekly basis so my suspension doesn't stay coated in oil.

My go-to for a while has been LA's Totally Awesome degreaser. Readily available at the dollar store and works VERY well. Has anyone compared the SC stuff to the LA stuff?

Yes ;

The Sams Club stuff out performs the Awsome stuff easily .

The T.A. is good stuff but not in the same ball park .

Our local coin op car wash seriously frowns on open hoods in the wash bays, and backs it up with the threat of $250 fines. They say the water is recycled, and given the storm drains go straight into to river or sound, I don't doubt it.
Of course, there are a few unnamed spots that will let you use the spray gun if you tip the operator and send him across the street for coffee..

That’s the problem I ran into around here, with the self service car washes.

They all banned engine washing or even if you had too much mud on your car.

Also they became a magnet for crime and so they were no longer safe to visit.

The last one near me that was semi-safe in the daytime was condemned for a road widening project and was torn down earlier this year.

Our storm drains definitely drain into the man-made lake that is the centerpiece of our neighborhood so I really don’t want to pollute that with engine wash down.

Yup, the coin op places in my neighborhood have signs saying no engine washing. I bought the $79 Harbor Freight power washer and went to town on mine in my driveway. It looked like the Exxon Valdez mixed with clumps of asphalt. I figured it is the same as road tar so I just washed it off the driveway into the street. I think one neighbor is upset but so many people are powerwashing their cars and RVs on my street with big gas powered washers nobody has really noticed.

I mean really folks, the oil is either going to drip from my engine on to the street or it is gonna get washed off my engine on to the street. My neighbors park their leaky cars intentionally on the street to hide their big black puddles on the blacktop. There is a ton of motor oil on the street already.

I actually think they’re happy I washed the oil spots off the driveway. The good news is after washing I pinpointed my leaks at the turbo return, blowby drain, valve cover, u-tube and finally the oil filter housing. I sealed them all up with a few bucks of parts from Peach and I’m happy.

I am very tempted to get some Members Mark degreaser and do it right like Rollguy. I’m just paranoid because that stuff works too well to be safe.

I picked his car right off Craigslist because it is just too clean. Too bad you can’t spray it on the outside of the car.
