Temperature of Climate Control Unit - Hot CCU PBUW123 W124 W201

What is a typical temperature for the climate control units in these cars before 1996?

I have one car (w123) that keeps going through units after I have already replaced the monovalve and auxiliary pump.

They keep heating up in the same spot even when nothing is turned on with the heating/ cooling system. A/C is disconnected.

My concern may only be based on that I keep getting bad units and that I regularly put my hand on the acu to check the temperature and it gets hotter than I expect.

A W123 has a completely different CCU to the W124, which is again different from the W201.

Which one are you asking about? If it's the W123, you need to get out the FSM and run through the diagnosis procedure to see if you have an external problem. The W123 uses a 2-piece setup with the PBU being mostly just relays and switches. The W124 system is all solid state and housed in the PBU unit. Entirely different animal.
