w123 300TD owners - does your rear ceiling pnael sag?

In the handful of 300TD's I've owned or ridden in the rear ceiling panel has always drooped in the middle right in front of the dome light, i.e. the panel that spans the ceiling and covers the speakers. See the pic below for what I'm talking about.

Is this by design (i.e. is something supposed to be there filling the gap in the middle), or is it just something that happens to these panels with age? If the latter, has anyone ever found a way to fix it?

Mine looks exactly the same. I think it just happens with age.

Post Headliner Woes

That part is fine but my 'D' pillar covers are both hanging by one side....

Old thread, but I'm wondering if anyone has ever successfully reshaped warped or sagging interior panels?

I'm thinking maybe a heat gun, some clamps and perhaps a metal bracket for support?

Post TD 'D' Pillar Trims

When I finally got off my duff and replaced the rear hatch struts I ever so carefully removed and trimmed the hanging loose 'D' pillar covers then trimmed them with a carpet knife with a new American made blade, my plan is to use upholstery cement to hold themin place, some day....

I have a pair of original new stock W123 wagon struts to sell or barter if anyone needs them .

I did not take any photos, but I have in fact used a piece of aluminum angle to hold up the sagging center of the panel. If I remember correctly, I used a 3' piece of 1" angle, and put a screw right in the center.
