Replacing Exhaust 1997 W210 E300

Hi. The exhaust needs replaced - I want to do the whole system. I can get everything from the dealership.

1. Have you guys found alternative sources for the whole system? I've looked at MANY sites with no luck.

2. Whatever I use for parts, there should be no cutting or welding, right?

Thanks!

Ebay Germany , you should be able to get complete system including postage for about the third of the cost the dealer wants.

Good idea. So I checked. Filtering for my year, make, and model, my search returned 161 results. All manifold gaskets, bolts, hangers, cylinder exhaust valves, etc. No actual exhaust system. Maybe my searching skills are poor?

Shipping is going to be your major cost from Euro land, also some of the German exhaust 'specialists' are registered there but based elsewhere, also quality can be questionable.

It's the catalysts that cost the most, from memory MB quote was around $1k for those alone, purchased entire system for lest than that.

Tools, get a rubber puller hanger thingy, you will be glad you did. Only other tricky part is turbo coupling of down pipe, straightforward but fiddly.

If you use the actual part numbers on fleabay, or just Google the part numbers you find quite a bit. Just when you search dont put the "A" part number....use this link to EPC diagrams, it is set for your make and model...

But the cheapest route is to have an exhaust shop throw in some 2.5" pipes with an oxy cat. And muffler of choice

Search ebay for the seller ‘GERLACH’

Item number 182058700884 Is a rear box and pipe for $98 , no postage though so expect to factor that in.
The seller will have the rest in stock as well.

I got quoted from dealership about $1,100 or $1,200 or so for whole thing end-to-end. (then add manifold bolts, hangers, etc...). Also, 1997 so no turbo to deal with.

My work PC won't let me go to this Russian web site. I'll try from home.

On eBay (USA), that seller shows no auctions. I'll look on ebay.de for that seller.

I'd also like to know more about the components in my diesel exhaust system.

The two down pipes come from the two exhaust manifolds and into a large device. What is that called and what does it do?

Two pipes exit this first device and join into one pipe, which then goes into a smaller, square device. What's that called and what does it do?

The pipe out of this second device leads into the third device, the muffler, at the back.

Thanks
