Interior door handle out of alignment

The drivers door interior door handle, the one that opens the door is becoming loose and out of wack. How do I service this thing? Does the plastic bezel just pull off?

Thanks

I should say it’s getting loose like it’s going to fall off.

The potmetal bracket has probably cracked, allowing the handle to flop.

Replacing the bracket requires removing the doorcard.
Here is the FSM job 72-230 that describes the procedure.
https://www.startekinfo.com/StarTek/outside/12265/disc_2/program/Chassis/72-230.pdf.

Also here is a link to the W123 FSM (for other jobs you may need to tackle in the future).

Pulling the part from a local Pick-N-Pull beforehand can provide you the experience to safely learn
the procedure (before you tackle the same job on your own vehicle).

Note: the doorcards hang on clips.
Only gravity holds them in place.
You must lift them up to remove them.
You will snap off the clips if you pull on the doorcard.
BTDT.

Sounds like I’m gonna need parts!

At least I know where to go to ask for parts.

Thank you

Mine was sagging for a while until it broke enough for one of the 2 pivot pins to fall out, then the other one fell out.

I managed to fix it by cutting part of a nail (has to fit perfect) - I forget, but it was pretty genius. Got the 2 pins back in service, a little crooked but works good.

Better fix it now before the pot metal breaks even more.. No idea where to get a new handle. People talk about junk yards having these cars, but most have been crushed.

Now I remember- cut the nail so one end has the nail head for support, and on the other end I cut a tiny notch around it so I could secure it with a C-clip (harbor freight pack). Put anti-sieze grease on everything for smooth operation and rust protection. BTW, I checked ebay, they have super expensive used ones....

I’ll take a stab at a repair, good tips.

The part is also available new from a regular dealership or online MB part suppliers under MB part number 123-760-02-61.

New would tend to last longer than used.

Thanks for the help, that video made taking door card off super easy. The pot metal was in fact broken, ordered a new MBZ part 40 bucks delivered all in.

It is appreciated
