P0243
some of you guys may have read my previous thread about a few things i noticed with my newly acquired 99 e300td. one of the issues was a P0243 code, which is "turbo/sup wastegate solenoid A malfunction"
i reset the code and changed all the vacuum lines then, and yesterday it came back. am i correct in thinking the next possible problem might be in the vacuum pressure converter valve that the vacuum line coming from the vacuum actuator on the wastegate? |
Try swapping the transducers (pressure converter you speak of) there is one on the intake box, and one next to the windshield fluid container. Also check the vacuum lines at the egr. I also recommend the diod/resistor mod. It's really easy if you follow the instructions, just look up om606 EGR delete. That will solve ALL problems, and get rid of that nasty EGR, and all components stay in place for emissions purposes.

awesome. i have plans to do the resistor/diode mod, just need to wait until we get back from a cross country trip.
my only concern about swapping the transducers is this is my wife's car. if the transducer is at fault after swapping, i should get a different code for the nasty egr? would it just be a cel? any possibility it would go into limp mode with that code? |
In my experiance with the code it set the car into limp mode, but it was because the boost pressure sensor line popped off. It is the small vacuum line on the back of the egr that goes to a little square box about the size of a quarter. If this line leaks or pops off it will set the code the location of the sensor is aft of the ABS module, on the drivers side. HOLY BOOST BATMAN!!!! This thing was getting little if any boost before this. i swapped the transducers, no cel, but good god this thing hauls ass! i bought this car like this so i didn't know any better, but i always thought it should've had way more power than my 300d 2.5.
what does the transducer do to the wastegate? is it held closed under vacuum to build boost? |
Funny story, I had the SAME thing happen to me. Thing is like light speed once that boost hits!

should i replace the other transducer i moved to the egr? before moving them, i could hear the buzzing/humming noise coming from the one on the egr for a few minutes after shutting the engine down. now, after moving them, i dont hear that noise from either of them....

If you plan on doing the EGR delete resistor diode, then I would leave it be. If it's not giving you any codes or CEL that is

parts ordered for egr delete, however, on my way home today, it reverted to limp mode (no boost) and cel came on. i waiting to hear from my neighbor to use his scan tool to find out what code it generated.

success! p0400 EGR flow malfunction! that vacuum transducer i swapped is the fault! i reset the code, after the egr delete parts get here, that should be the end of that!

Vacuum lines
Does anyone know where I can find replacement hoses and rubber "elbow" connectors for the vacuum lines that plug into the soilnoids on the w210 om606? Mine are cracked beyond belief and can't find a replacement online or any info on the diameter of the hose. Thanks for any help!

Stop by your local MB dealer and pick up a straight length of vacuum hose with 4mm ID. Does not necessarily have to have the bend in it.
