Try posting the link again...we can't see what you're seeing. If it's the 300SDL with 59k miles, that odo looks normal to me.

Pedal and steering wheel condition are reliable guides if you suspect odo tampering.

Try this:

https://montreal.craigslist.ca/cto/d/sdl-mercedes-benz-turbo/6634057007.html

I'd be more concerned with the amount of front suspension and brake work done on a car with only 59K than I would be with the odometer. Good looking car but that engine bay looks scruffy for only those miles.

I suppose the PO might have been pedantic when it came to the front end/suspension work. Could also have been a "When did they put a parking block THERE" kind of incident.

The car looks rightous to me.

Seems like a lot of front end work though....maybe it ran over somethign and damaged all that.

This guy might be a car flipper, run his phone # on Google. Looking at E bay kardoules081020 shows a Toyota Land Cruiser in the feedback section.

The 300 is on E bay for a 16,750 buy it now.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/1987-Mercedes-Benz-300-Series-300SDL/153087078426?hash=item23a4b3701a:g:r5sAAOSwB45anY9l

It could be legitimate but I'm suspect.

I'd be asking for service records and have the dealer run the VIN for mileage / data at last service. I pinched a salvage yard claiming that an engine had miles in the single thousands, when the vin came up with over 100 K on a dealer VMI. ( The dealer won't give you a VMI but if you have a good relationship with the parts dept, they will give you a bit of info. )

It is now my pleasure to offer you this beautiful classic with only 59,800 Original Miles for sale. It is a 2-Owner, garage kept, accident free example.
I'd say prove it was garage kept, I want to talk to past owners. Also, I'd be asking if the title is in his name and for how long. Car flippers play the paperwork game and don't title cars in their name.

Since 1987, this car has been exclusively garaged next to my uncle's other W126's and taken out only during the spring and summer months.
I'd want to talk to this uncle and first owner. I'd also want to know how, since 87, 2 owners parked this in the same garage next to uncle.

X2, not familiar with 87 SDLs but the steering wheel does look pretty smooth, or worn, for those few miles. Also that asking price?

That asking price is insane. There was one posted this past winter on eBay in way nicer condition with verifiable information that went for less money after being reposted many times without bids.

Red flags:
- Rebuilt front suspension at 59K miles? I know rubber degrades, but that seems excessive.
- Water pump? Really? Seems to suggest the cooling system was neglected, or car has more miles than shown.
- Turbo? Again, really?

If it really is a 59K car and was garage kept, perhaps it was a lemon from the factory. My parents have a 2003 Exploder that has 21K original miles and garage kept because every time it moves, it breaks. Their excuse for dumping $1500+ in repairs every year - "It's paid for".

Just adding to this thread - W126 odometers have a habit of degrading the gears and failing to operate. Perhaps the odometer is a replacement unit, or perhaps the gears degraded and it simply didn't work for a while. If the car was dealer-serviced, their records will indicate the mileage discrepancy. Otherwise, take claimed miles on a W126 with a grain of salt.

Would CarFax be able to confirm the mileage?

Doubtful. CarFax on my SDL and the SL both say "exempt". The cutoff seems to be 25 years old. Mileage on vehicles without a stored mileage count in the ECU is extremely difficult to prove without dealership records and a binder of receipts showing mileage and dates.

Regarding price: its in canadian funds so would be 13,780 usd. Canadians like top trade at par though.

I found front end work to suspicious at that mileage as well. Its a pretty car.

On another topic: saw a Netflix show GLOW set in 1985 with a 300s featured except it had stainless steel wheel arches. You’d think they could have found a better example!

Ive found quebecois to be cordial to deal with but very sharp traders, so Im always alert.

By that far into 59k, I'd suspect the "5" is getting ready to roll over to "6".

On a big, heavy, 30yo car, rubber parts start to rot and go bad.

I wouldn't buy a car that I couldn't explore in person.

I didn't see the new turbo mentioned before. To me that's more of a flag than the suspension or odometer.
