Check your tanks AZ!

Just wanted to give a friendly heads up to all in AZ/SoCal. I have gotten fuel from Phoenix to San Diego over that last month and a half and I got a bad batch at one of the places as I ran some Bio Kleen and my pre filter is now clogged right up with little diesel bug carcasses. If you live in the area it cant hurt to run a little biocide.

Some products like Startron claim they have an enzyme in them that breaks the dead bodies up into pieces small enough to pass through the Filters.

I am not seeing that sort of enzyme action listed in the Bio Kleen description I got from amazon.com.

Power Service 09016-09 Bio Kleen Diesel Fuel Biocide - 16 oz.
Dual-phase effective in both diesel fuel and water as recommended by major diesel engine manufacturers
• Kills microbes (bacteria and fungi) that grow in dispersed and free water associated with diesel fuels
• Improves fuel performance and reduces engine maintenance costs
• Prevents fuel-filter plugging and fuel system failures
• Effective in all diesel fuels, including ultra low sulfur diesel, biodiesel and biodiesel blends

I have several spare filters laying around, but just wanted to mostly give the heads up. I may also try bio bor, or the start on. I happened to have the bio Kleen on hand though

I write stuff the way I do partly because other people also read these threads. Also I think the Bio Bor also is dose not have the enzymes in it. However, that company could make more then one product.

Bio Bor has been around since the 1960's, that I know of.

I just filled up with B99 biodiesel at Western States Petroleum in Phoenix. I think it was $2.78 per gallon, which is at least 30 cents per gallon cheaper than diesel. My car seems so much peppier on it.

It turns out my car had a RACOR filter in it at one point. It has four holes on the inner fender, and I figured maybe someone had a waste vegetable oil system in it. But then I noticed that under the hood there was a dirty and faded sticker reading, "This vehicle is equipped with a RACOR fuel filter." I had to look it up to see what it was.

I have a high quality Racor 500 copy on my truck in place of the primary filter. Very pleased with it, zero regrets about the upgraded filtration.

Angry FUNGUS

I've been through this a few times, I used to rely on Startron but someone here mentioned Bio-Bor JF and I tried it, hands down it out performs Statron .

I've gotten more filthy, fungus loaded dino diesel from Chevron stations than any other .

Since I got tainted fuel that brought a fungus among us, I have a bottle of BioBor JF in the trunk and it now goes in EVERY. SINGLE. FILLUP. Car made it 30 years with an absolutely spotless tank, ruined with one crap batch of fuel. Biocide is cheap insurance.

Treating the Fuel with something is way cheaper then having to treat after the fact and having to change a lot of filters tiill the issue is cleared up. As I mentioned unless your Filter is already plugged up the Startron is supposed to decrease the chance of the dead bodies clogging up other Filters.

The Racor Filter that can be pulled out of the top have the benifit of being lots easier and less messy to change if you die on the road side.

I only have had one bad tank of fuel but was lucky that nothing was growing in it.

Getting Fuel out of town seems to be one of the key elements in getting a bad tank of Fuel.

Getting fuel out of town is fine as long as it's at a high-turnover station. Truck stop or whatever with a long line of customers and fresh fuel delivered every day, good to go. If they had garbage fuel, their main customer base would disappear. Truckers talk to each other and pass word along, and a truck driver will burn in a week what most people burn all year. I believe Mach4 has gone 100k+ miles on one set of filters with careful purchasing.

Small Ma & Pa station out in the boonies that may turn over their fuel every month or two, good luck. Roll of the dice.

Worst station near me for sediment is actually one of the bigger stations in a small town. No clue what's going on there.

Perhaps the bio-diesel helped clean up your fuel system. My 1984 & 85 300D's idle smoother on Propel's Diesel HPR, which is made from waste food oils (fish, etc) and can be used in any diesel engine w/ no conversion needed. Currently only avail in CA and I think offered because of the carbon credit market here. I did see a wet fuel hose after switching, which I replaced with Goodyear Barricade "for bio-diesel" hose. Bio fuels are more aggressive, but that can be good in keeping the system clean.

I've been using B99 biodiesel in my car for about eight years now. When I'm not able to get it and use diesel, the engine seems to be louder and doesn't have as much pickup. Then when I put biodiesel back in, the engine gets quieter and faster. I really wish there were more biodiesel stations around.

My engine likes biodiesel as well. All Oregon diesel is at least B5, I fill up on B20 when I can and really notice the difference.

Keep in mind, “bacteria” infections are varied, and have several types of results.

Bacterial infection doesn’t leave “bodies” it leaves asphalt particulates that stick to the tank and gooey coat the system.
Some cleaners treat different stages of the problem.

Biobor kills the bacteria.

Startron emulsifies the fuel...
