Got into a minor accident, need to replace bent w123 guide rod ...

Well in an absent minded rush I was turning around today in a parking lot and collided with a parking barrier in my 82 240D. This smashed in the driver side fender (have a replacement already on the way) and bent the guide rod pushing the wheel backwards in the wheel well.

So anyone have any tips on replacing this? Is this an easy DIY? please tell me I don't need a spring compressor.

Also it appears to be an extremely hard part to find used? Anyone have one they wanna sell me?

I'm in West Chester PA for shipping.

thanks!

The lower spring plate covers up a nut and bolt you will need to remove from the front of the Guide Rod in order to remove it. You will need to let the Lower Control Arm hang and compress the Spring enough to remove the lower Spring Plate and that bolt and nut. There is also a Rubber Sleeve down there that may need replacing.

Before you unscrew the Guide Rod measure the and or count the exposed threaded area so you can attempt to try to duplicate the caster.

If the Wheel was shoved backwards it could have damaged/bent the parts on the Chassis where the Lower Control Arm attaches and or damaged the Lower Control
Arm Bushing.

I folded a W123 LCA and guide rod on a curb, and you wouldn't have known it looking at the attachment points. A junkyard guide rod and LCA cost me $50 shipped, I think. I used a spring compressor to hold back the spring while I put the new parts in. Make sure to mark the index of the eccentric bolt that holds the LCA to the body before you touch it.
