W211 E320 CDI fuel lines -- can

Check your vehicles. As with old w124 and 123, be sure to inspect and replace rubber fuel lines on top of the engine.

I had a fuel line going to the fuel filter split no less then three times on a drive cross country! One time was on the first stop in a national park at noon, open sun and temperature close to 100F!

I replaced the two lines going to the fuel pump on the front of the engine when I got to Durango, CO where I could get braided fuel line made in Germany by Continental.

I do not know if the line had deteriorated from age or exposure to biodiesel mixed into today's diesel in US.

The person at the supply shop/ diesel truck shop in Durango made the comment any truck that comes in the shop for modification, gets new fuel lines.

Ck. your lines....if one goes, it can leave you stranded.

My next project will be the return lines.

Fuel Lines

I have been running Biodiesel for 15 year, first in a w123 then a w124, and now in a 2005 E320 CDI. Replacing the fuel and return lines on the w123 and w124's was a snap and I changed them with Viton as well as the injector returns. The w211 looks considerably more challenging. Is it as difficult as it appears?

The lines are all easily accessible on top the engine. You will have to remove the plastic cover. Torx male and female extensions are necessary to remove the cover and metal plate near fuel pump at front of engine.

I have not done the return lines but have read that there are o-rings there.

Definitely worth doing this project as a broken line can strand you.
