You would need to find the part in the Mercedes Manual on that.
If it is like the my year and model there is going to be Vacuum reading on the suctioned and a pressure reading on the pressure side and a flow test. On the pressure test even with a liquid filled/dampened gauge the needle bounces around a lot. The Fuel Pressure Relief/Over Flow Valve controls the pressure so if there is an issue with that your pressure you won't be able to know if the Fuel Pump can make the pressure and when you take the Fuel Pressure reading you need to be sure the spin-on filter is not restricted (a new Filter would be perfect) and on the suction side you need to be sure the Fuel Tank Screen and the Fuel Tank Vent are functioning properly.

Simplest quick test to start with I can think of. If nothing is coming out of the return fuel line from the injection pump. A more in depth investigation is warranted.
