1984 300 SD won't crank with key
I think that I know the answer but you folks have saved me a lot of work before. 1984 300 SD when the key is turned to the start position nothing happens no click or anything. When you short between the lugs on the right front fender it cranks with no problem. You have to wiggle the switch a bit to get the thermometer to come on also. Is there anything other that the ignition switch that it could be?

Neutral start switch. Try starting in Neutral instead of Park. Failed shifter bushings are a very common culprit of a no-start condition.

If you can wiggle the shifter back and forth and find a magic spot for it to start, that is an indication that you need to replace the shifter bushings.
