Look what followed me home: a 1990 250D!

188,000 km. Was Opa's car, but granddaughter thinks it's too big for her to drive.

I'm really impressed with the rear seat upholstery. It looks to be in showroom condition. Was that standard at the time, a factory option, or custom?

The car is 100% stock, and was ordered with only 3 options:
  • Becker Europa 2000 radio
  • limited slip differential
  • model designation delete
So it's a stripper- a real economy Mercedes. Even so, it has a five-speed, the rear seat headrests with the button on the dash to put them down, vacuum-operated whole-car central locking, 2-zone heat (no A/C- in Germany God provides the cool air) and that lovely cloth interior that looks like it's never been sat in after 28 years and more than 100,000 miles.

Luxury is not necessarily gizmos and technology, but high quality design and materials.

The motor is a 2.5L "saugdiesel" (suck-diesel, meaning normally aspirated) No turbo means 93 galloping horsepower! From memory, the engine is more responsive than the W123
turbodiesels I've had (all wagons).
