E320 Bluetec Fuel Hose Replacement
I am going to replace a fuel hose from fuel pump to fuel filter on my 2008 MB E320 Bluetec but need some tips in order to make that job easier.
I have new hose clamps and the tool to work on it. As that hose has a special shape and travel under the air intake pipe, it seems to have some step by step to have that replaced. I would appreciate if you can help me on that. Thanks. |
You’re probably best to get the OEM specific hose. It will have been heat formed to the exact shape needed to clear all the obstacles.
The air intake pipe (I think they refer to this as a “charge air pipe” as it is actually compressed air coming out of the turbo heading toward the intercooler) is held in by a screw holding down a bracket in the center of the pipe. Can’t recall at the moment how it’s attached to the turbo - it may well just be a slip joint. Pretty sure it’s a wire bail clamp on the intercooler side - just slide the wire bail out of the groove and pull the intercooler hose off. When you are at the dealer ordering the hose be sure to ask the parts guy if EPC shows any o-rings for either end of the charge air pipe. If so you will want to replace them or you will have a boost leak. Once you have the air intake pipe off then just loosen the clamps and slide the old hose out. Follow the same path to insert the new hose. If it is a rubber line then it will be on the low pressure side. The OM642 has an electrical fuel delivery pump, so if you just turn the key on and wait a few seconds for it to purge the lines, you should be all set when you start it for the first time. |
