Question New Locks or Rekeying 85sd

Well the the wife had her purse stolen and the keys. Totally stinks
I installed a new ignition lock but have been concerned with the trunk& doors, well last night I had a visitor that went through the car but I had emptied my tools and etc,etc to my other SD.

Can the other locks be rekeyed or should I be looking for a set of used locks ?
I have been using two keys for several years so that OK

What are my options?

Thx

I'd be looking for a new residence. None of my cars have ever been molested as much as yours even when I lived on the south side of Chicago.

Cheap aftermarket ignition locks are sold on this site. You need a set of locks with keys. However you acquire them is up to you. Many refer to the Classic Center in CA for OE parts.

I put a new ignition lock in Sat afternoon, otherwise my car would have been gone .
Our sponsor doesn't carry door & trunk locks so my question is is the dealer the only option?
Or
Buy set of used locks or can a locksmith rekey I have no experience with this.

Thx

That stinks. I have a buddy living in a luxury apartment. He got his cars broken into three times now in the garage by guys tailgating cars into the subterranean garage. They just see the place as a hunting ground. They even stole his smelly sneakers.

Ok, well I just posted a small amount of info on my 1985 300d restoration log about how I keyed all my locks the same. The car was keyed for three different keys.

Got a 1985 300D turbo

Were the door locks original to the car? If so, head down to the MB dealer with proof of ownership and ~$30 and they'll have a new key for you the next day. You can't get the VIN-matched lock anymore, but you can still get the key.

Thanks Diseasel300 I did that and then new ignition lock came so I put hat in, But the doors and trunk still concerned me.
I Lived in St. Louis 40 yrs so I kind of know what to expect from these Crack Heads. But as hoping he wouldn't take it this far.
Was happy to get new ignition lock, I was getting wore out unhooking battery every night and putting in other car then reverse the next morning.

Sounds like they IDed your address from stuff that was in the Purse.

People rarely have said their door or trunk locks go bad. That means a used set has a good chance of being fine.

I bought a used set that had the Ignition Tumbler, Door and Trunk locks. I had already purchased a Myele Ignition Tumbler so I did not change it for the Used Tumbler. However, I swapped my Trunk Lock (never had a key for it) with the used Trunk Lock and am very happy with that.

I also cut off the vacuum to the locking system and have been useing it manually.

I never changed out the Door Locks because to me it is just too much work for not much of a reason.

Of the used locks it would be the Ignition Tumbler that is the most problematic.

People that have bought the Myele Ignition Lock Tumbler claim it only lasts about a year or so. I think I am almost up to a year with no issues. However, when I put in a new Steering Colum Lock I made it so the Lock does not engage. That means that the Key and Tumbler don't have to turn against the spring tension of the Steering Colum Lock. That means less load on the Tumbler.

Yeah even here in Des Miones Iowa we have a growing crime problem. We moved up here 2.5 yr ago from St.Louis

Yes the wife had everything in there including the "KitchenSink" we live 1/4 mile from the Aldi were it happened, cars are parked outside in front lot.

As for locks I do appreciate your helpful suggestions. I replace the original ignition lock back in 2014 with a "Febi" work like a champ, we use the car everyday so I installed another.

I just up a WTB request for a set of locks. My hands are just to stiff for that fiddley bits work needed to rekey myself.
Thx

I identify with the stiff hand issue.

Odd Story. A friend of mine was helping someone move and loading things into a Car. She set her Purse on the Sidewalk and while her head and most of her body was in the Car a Woman ran buy, snatched her Purse and continued running.

A week later She got a package. Inside was her Purse with all of her ID as stuff. All that was missing was the Cash and Cosmetics.

That sometime in the early 1980's. Not much ID theft going on then and I don't believe she had a Credit Card.
