K1 spring?

1993 300D 2.5turbo

I have hard shifts from starting gear to second despite new vcv and modulator. Vacuum to transmission is around 28 inches. Port pressure is set below spec to alleviate some of the jerkiness. I get the occasional flare from 3-4 as well. Since i'll be in there I'd prefer to replace likely culprits. Is this the K1 and B1 kit?

Thank you.

K1 typically affects 2-3, and K2 the 3-4.

1-2 roughness tends to be due to wear in the transmission or inappropriate adjustment. Make sure your operating and modulator pressures are correct. When cold, my SDL will just about break your neck shifting from 1-2 for the first couple shifts. Once it warms up it becomes much more refined. K1 took care of my 2-3 craptastic shifting (it came out in multiple pieces). 3-4 was always fine and K2 was intact when I checked it.

Diesels should be a 1st gear start. You have a 4 speed transmission so should have 3 shifts.

Since you've replaced the VCV and modulator, have you replaced or accidentally removed the various restrictors as well? Those are the little plastic connectors between lengths of hose. They are color coded by ID and the wrong restrictor can have a significant effect on shift quality. Also, are you using the correct VCV? There are at least two versions, one with a blue valve and one with a black valve. The blue valve version passes more vacuum. This is a good document for more info, vacuum tuning starts around page 9:
