Om602.962 electronics, to delete or not to delete? That is the question.

Howdy everyone!
I recently purchased a good condition om602.962 engine from a 93 190d from ROLLGUY (thanks rich!) that im planning on dropping into my t1 van. I have been swiftly moving down the path of removing all non vital things on this engine such as egr and vaccuum actuated wastegate as many members have done before with these (the documentation on this site is radical!).
It seems that many people have been able to remove the entire ecu and related relays as you are able to bump up the base rpm to compemsate for removing the electronic idle. What i am wondering is if anyone has removed their electronic idle relay and ecu but continued to use their ac? From what i have researched on here it seems that the electronic idle control is there to compensate for the rpm drop when using the ac system. Is it a big issue in regards to your engines stock performance if you remove electronic idle control?
Or is it fine to delete the electronics and bump up the rpm base idle and continue to utilize the ac system and drive the engine without electronics? Thanks for any input!

I thought ‘89 was the last year of the 190D in the US.

IIRC the ELR-less 190D 2.2 has a solenoid that bumps the throttle linkage when the AC compressor engaged. You might look into that.

The mechanical idle RPM limiter affects the governor, so if you set the RPM, it will keep it up when the A/C kicks on. Since you've deleted the EGR and the vacuum wastegate, the EDS computer is really only controlling idle speed and providing a tach pulse. If you set the mechanical idle speed, the sole remaining function of the EDS is a tach pulse, which is basically just an amplification of the signal coming from the magnetic pickup.

Awesome, thanks guys for the quick responses. So it seems it isthat once the mechanical base idle is set it wont be affected by the ac load the way i thought. Ill give er a try without the ecu then and see how it works! Thanks again guys!
