1985 Mercedes 250D
Hey All,
My father lives in Germany and is 91 years of age. He has a 1985 Mercedes 250D that I was thinking of shipping to California. Is this something I can easily do or are there any obstacles with registration in California? What about parts? Are parts readily available? Thanks, Chris |

Post some photos . Yes, it's do - able. not as difficult as it once was because it's over 25 years old now .

parts can be ordered by the part number from germany if nec. a good part of the parts needed are common with us spec vehicles.

Yep, it's over 25 years old so getting it into the country should not a problem. Getting it to pass whatever California requirements might be, depending on what the rules are for diesel inspections.

The California ‘85 300D had a trap oxidizer but IIRC the ‘85 190D 2.2 didn’t. I’m curious what they’ll say about the 250D. All California Diesels from ‘80 or so have EGR. Does this 250D have EGR?
Sentimental value aside, you can get a 90-93 300D 2.5 turbo for about what it’ll cost to land a 250D, and the US car will have a turbo. The ‘85 250D wasn’t offered with a turbo. No rust issues with a car that spent all that time in Germany? Sixto 98 E320s sedan and wagon 02 C320 wagon |

Well, the 91 300d was a 2.5 five cylinder liter turbo motor....same basic motor wasn't it?

Yes, both OM602.
The 86-89 190D 2.5 NA should have the same engine but I don’t know how much is exactly the same. There was a 190D 2.5 turbo for ‘87. AT only. Sixto 98 E320s sedan and wagon 02 C320 wagon |
