Walmart has done it guys Supertech 15w-40 Diesel oil!
It's $18 for 2 Gallons, who's going to run it first?

Well it is on the MB approval list. I have used it before and it is just fine despite what the oil snobs might say. My local farm store has 15W40 that is something like $11. Harvest King or something like that I think. Somebody had a VOA done on it and it specs out pretty close to the name brand oils.

The Delvac-1300 is typically ~$20 for 2.5 gallons at Wal-Mart. Better deal, more oil for roughly the same coin. I run it in the SDL, it seems to be perfectly happy with it.

Weird....it tends to hover somewhere around the $20-25 mark here... The last time I bought it I wondered why the SuperTech brand was only a couple bucks cheaper, but lacking 2 quarts. Maybe it's a regional thing, or more likely, the local Wal-Mart is incompetent in pricing. |
Here the local Walmart has Delvac-1300 in gal. for $10.87 while the SuperTech is $11.87. I have been using the Delvac-1300 in all of my diesel motors. If the SuperTech was cheaper, I would use that instead, as it most likely is made in the same refinery.

Delvac 1300 is the same price by me. Loss leader or something. I'm sort of surprised that it is at such a price point compared to supertech. Supertech is made by warren products, like many other store brand oils. They are a respectable private label blender. Delvac is made by Mobil. Not the same stuff. Test results can be seen here actually: https://pqiablog.com/2016/09/07/pqia-examines-five-deisel-motor-oil-samples/ |

Various Oil Brands
I'm assuming here that all these oils you're talking about are CJ rated ? .
|
I have been using Supertech oil in my Diesels for years. Around here, it is the least expensive of all 15-40 available. I go a maximum of 5k between oil changes.

It was in the 228.31 approval list, I remember seeing it but I just looked and I do not see it, or I am overlooking it. Maybe the formula changed or something. https://bevo.mercedes-benz.com/bevolisten/228.31_en.html The bottle used to say it, but I have not looked at one in a while. Here is a VOA from a couple of years ago which lists it as 228.31 approved. SuperTech SAE 15W-40 API CJ-4/SN |
Oh, No ~ The OIL THREAD !
"You will find that most if not all 15-40 oil is Diesel rated (C). "
Actually no, they're not in any FLAPS I have checked ~ only a very small percentage of the oils offered have a 'C' rating . |

Funny, I was in Auto-Zone this evening and all of the "Diesel" oils are in one section, most are 5w-40 or 15w-40. Every one of them "C" rated. Wander over to the gasoline engine section and it sure is hard to find 15W-40 that is only "S" rated. I think you'll find if you read the label that most of the 15W-40 oils say they're CK and SN compatible. Delvac and Delo are 2 such brands marketed as "universal" oils. https://www.mobil.com/en/mobil-delvac/products/engine-oils/mobil-delvac/mobil-delvac-1300-super https://www.chevronlubricants.com/en_us/home/products/delo-400-sde-sae-15w-40.html |
