This. I often forget the older cars were not serpentine belt systems. The clutched pulley took out a lot of the noise and the tesioner/shock don't move around much now either.

It's a great upgrade.

Thanx, I don't work on modern vehicles and have seen many serpentine drive belt systems but never a clutched alternator pulley .

That's why I like Forums, I crave knowledge and am always learning new things .

85SD 240K & stopped counting painted, putting bac together. 84SD 180,000. sold to a neighbor and member here but I forget his handle. The 84 is much improved from when I had it. 85TD beginning to repair to DD status. Lots of stuff to do.

SD alternator was bad... pulled it yesterday and put in the spare from jaybobs wagon. The nuts are different, and the shaft is shorter, and the nut from Jay's alternator had chamfoered threads, but the nut from my GM alt worked... had to take off the spacer on the fan, but it fit...
Working like a champ now.
