1990 300D leak from fuel rack position sensor- Help
The engine on my dad's new (to him) 1990 300D is pretty clean except for a leak on the injection pump. There's a three pin sensor or something on the top of the injection pump and it's leaking from the base of that.
https://i.imgur.com/Uf1wFHJh.jpg I've had some difficulty figuring out what exactly this sensor is, it's the control rod travel sensor (fuel rack position sensor), but I haven't figured out how it's sealed or removed either. There was a slotted collar nut that I removed but that didn't help me any. Does anyone know how to remove it or make it stop leaking? |
Since 1987 the w124 diesels had electronic idle. If you unplug it, it will run at about 500rpm. I’m pretty sure it isn’t removable.

The connector and seal are serviced from inside the IP. I wouldn’t spring for the cost of an IP rebuild just to fix that leak. Clean and dry the area then try to squeeze RTV around the base.
