A young man who has been working as a Mercedes mechanic, and also does paint and body took the car today. I feel it is in good hands and we made a fair exchange. I won't deny the fact that my wife and I are both feeling a bit of sadness after watching it drive away. Thanks for all the years of advice and camaraderie.

Same melancholy feeling I had watching my 300SD leave the driveway with somebody else at the wheel.

My intent is to finish the 85SD that has been in the family since new. I'll drive it until the earlier of something happens that totals it, fuel becomes unavailable or I quit driving. It needs paint, AC & drivers seat repair but it steers like new and engine is in good shape. I'll keep enough spare parts to fix most of the expensive things ie engine or trans swap etc.

Betrayal.

I hope you didn't give him a good deal since you thought it would be well cared for. Send in the release of liability and make sure he actually puts it in his name or has a dealer's licence so you don't get stung by his unknown buyer crashing it while it is registered to you and all the legal fallout that can come of that...

Business is business. The guy who buys the car from you won’t have the same sentiment you had. There’s no betrayal. With the market anyway, he won’t get more than $1300 if he’s lucky. You don’t turn a profit on these cars unless you get them for scrap price and sell them for a grand.

Yep that's it. His description paints a somewhat rosier picture than reality and I'd be surprised to see it sell for that much...If he's willing to deal with the calls and showings and he makes a little profit that's OK with me.

I just couldn't keep it any longer, no time to work on it and the head room was always an issue, I was constantly trying to find seat positions to compensate for the lack of head room but on extended trips nothing worked.

Sure business is business, but unless you're a dealer it's kinda shady to flip a car...you know he's not registering and paying the sales tax to flip it, just filling out the signed off title from you. Which is illegal in most (all?) jurisdictions and leaves you open to liability for hit and run accidents, tickets, tolls, etc if the next owner is of the "illegal" or irresponsible variety.

The release was entered electronically with his info as buyer before it left the house and followed up with a mailed hard copy, the plate was removed (expired 12/31/18 anyway) and the car was driven off with an electronically generated 3 day ADOT permit in his name.

Well it sure looks nice. I wish I could have got out there and got it from you, I would have loved to add it to my fleet rather than flip it.
