Blue Nelson planning another trip to Europe - To get an identical car as last trip!
 

Road trip 2.0- My friend Blue is planning another trip to Europe, and this time to purchase a carbon copy of the car we got last trip! (April 2017). Yes you read it right. Last time Blue purchased a 1990 S124 230TE RHD two-tone blue wagon from a gentleman in England (Conrad). The original thread:

A few weeks ago Blue got a call from Conrad, and he said he bought another IDENTICAL CAR! (the only exception is it is in much better condition!).

Conrad thought that Blue would definitely buy the car, so he did not hesitate to purchase it after seeing it for sale in London. Blue was emailed the photos, and a deal was made, and deposit sent.

So, it looks like another tour of Europe is being planned for sometime in 2019! This is the road trip thread from 2017:

Planning to go to Albania
 

I have been told there are MANY (80 percent of registered vehicles) Mercedes-Benz's in Albania, so that will be a must see part of our trip. I have a gif that shows a typical scene (every car in view is a Mercedes-Benz), and hope it is downloadable here. Here goes!

We have finally gotten all our "ducks in a row", and are planning to leave on Monday or Tuesday (depending on flight availability). Our route will cover approximately 8,000 miles. The tentative itinerary will include the following destinations: Sheffield England: to pick up the car, Ireland: to visit the former owner of the "Brauner Benz" (Blue will be presenting Markus with High Mileage Awards from Mercedes-Benz), Germany: attend the Techno Classica car show Techno Classica Essen, visit friends and pick up parts near Stuttgart, look at a couple M B 123's for sale near Bilbao, visit Gibralter, visit a friend in Saint-Tropez France, drive through Italy and down the coast to Albania (second only to Morocco: having the largest Mercedes-Benz population in the world), drive across Greece to Istanbul Turkey, and then head to Amsterdam (through Bulgaria, Serbia, Hungary etc.), where the car will be shipped back to the 'States (New York). The entire trip will take about three weeks. Along out trip, I will try to upload photos here as often as an internet connection allows.......Rich

Wow, a lot of driving in 3 weeks. It works out to be over 350+ miles per day. You need to leave some time for sight/car-seeing. Have fun and lot of pictures please.

Awe, super jelly. I did a similar road trip for my honeymoon. 6 weeks all across western Europe.

I see you're making a stop in Amsterdam. Don't forget to pick up some "goodies" before you leave. Would make for a mighty boring road trip :P

Agreed. We talked about it, and revised the route. We will skip the trip to Gibraltar, and looking at the cars near Bilbao.

I'm impressed you're doing that level of driving and sightseeing in only 3 weeks. That's some hard core road tripping.

My advice? Skip Switzerland and spend more time sightseeing elsewhere. The wife and I found Switzerland to be the most boring and most expensive out of every country we went to.

1 CHF is roughly 1 USD and prices are similar to high end everything in New York City. Expect to spend $100$ for every meal. I had a 20$ Big Mac at McDonalds.

Yeah it's pretty and their fondue is tasty, but don't spend more than 1-2 days there unless you want to burn gobs of cash. It's a country of bureaucrats and bankers and the costs make up for it.

You'll also need a Vignette for driving on the highways in Switzerland, Austria, and maybe elsewhere. Dont forget to pick one up when you cross the borders! I had a sticker on my windshield that was nothigore than an oil change reminder. Fooled several cops until I saw a sign reminding motorists about it.

My best memory was going 105mph on the Autobahn somewhere in Germany. I had to pull in the far left lane and slow down drastically for road debris. I put on my blinkers as I slowed down to 55 and looked in the mirror. To my astonishment , the driver behind me that was coming up like a rocket put his blinkers on and slowed down, then another, and another until this long line of blinkers just kept cascading down the roadway.

Truely astonishing!
