Door lock cyls.

Well spent a few hours on the 240D today, only have one key that works in the ignition... Watched some vids and got some input off a few sites... Well the locks will turn now but the doors will not lock /unlock.. Filed the "wafers" till they were flush with the lock cylinder with the key in.... Maybe I missed something, still in the same boat...

Post Door Locks & Handles

When you re install the handles the paddle on the inner end og the locking shaft, often doesn't quite make it into the slotted hole .

Other times, when the handle was removed the paddle breaks off or the wasp waisted part of the latch itself gets broken ~ earlier models had this piece in pot metal and they were harder to break than the plastic ones ~ kneel down and peer up inside the door with a flashlight to see .

Exclamation

NO ! ~ leave the handles in situ , remove the door cards, kneel on the ground and look up into the door with a flashlight to -see- if this is the problem before doing anything else ~ my '82 240D came to me with this fault, the passenger side door key didn't work because someone previously had yanked the handle out of the latch assy, breaking off both the paddle and the plastic bushing thing .

I was able to find a 1978 W123 with the pot metal thing that breaks, replaced the entire door latch and all is well .

This sort of thing is why I always try to convince folks to do it them selves ~ because YOU CARE there's less chance of rushing or ham fisting the job .
