Trunk leak found, but how to fix...

Hi Everbody!

After a lot of searching and head scratching I found the leak in my trunk. The first was the antenna seal, ordered the part and will replace this week.

The second area, and the one that greatly contributes to water in the trunk, is the plastic liner on the rear of the trunk by the trunk lock. The plastic is cracked on top and in the lip which allows water to leak through at a pretty considerable rate. Normally I just replace parts, but I’m thinking it would be hard to find this part...so I am at a loss. Should I use some type of sealant? What would you recommend?

In the pics, the cracks are shown. I put electrically grape over as a quick and temporary fix, but to no avail.

Any suggestions? Just happy I finally connected the dots on the leak!

i might try some of that 3m flexible strip caulk - maybe not permanent but it works incredible well to seal weird gaps and cracks in uneven surfaces and joints.

I would take the plastic piece off the trunk and figure out how to flatten that metal portion that has been puckered from that rear end hit.

probably some hammering is in order. then, I would re-paint any rusty metal underneath the plastic with some sort of rust paint (like POR-15 if you have it, regular auto spray primer/paint is fine if this is not critical). then put the plastic back down with a bead of silicone underneath it to fill any remaining gaps.

hope this helps, should be a couple hours and $20 worth of materials to fix right up

I have done small filling jobs with JB Weld epoxy. Which works OK on flat horizontal surfaces but otherwise can run before it cures.

There is also Epoxy Putty dose not run and usually stick where you put it till it cures.
