Would Leno ever showcase a W123 diesel?

What likely would be some of the history discussed as part of the cars review ?

My friend Blue Nelson is a good friend of Jay Leno. I am sure if Blue asked Jay, he would showcase a W123.

Maybe one with an interesting motor swap or something, but there are still a lot of W123s on the roads of SFV where his garage is. It's iconic but not a rare car at all in SoCal.

You fellows just really want Jay Leno to increase the interest in them? Driving the prices up. I am have a hard time with this. Being as cheap as I am.

If I remember he worked as a young fellow for a Mercedes dealership. Moving cars for them etc. He too is rumored to be conservative with the dollar.

There is absolutely no truth that I am also so tight I squeak when I walk. It is just the shoes.

Actually a good argument could be made for the long lifespan capabilities of the 123 diesels. Being well beyond any other make or model of car of that period. Remaining on the roads and highways still in daily driver status for many. In the numbers they are. As old as they are.

Some of the first ones are more than forty years old now. Actually I have a 1977 300d that is 42 years old but unused at this time. Still could be though. Plus a 1979 240d that is just having it's 40th birthday party.

Keith Martin of sports car market fame picked the 240D as the highest quality car ever built I believe. It was a panel at one of the big auctions....Scottsdale perhaps? I corresponded with him once about a 280e euro he was fixing up for his son to drive. I had one at that time too. Nice fellow. His magazine ventures have made him a wealthy man now.

There's a fellow named Joe out in La Habra California that has a rotisserie restored white over black W123 with either a 3.0 or a 3.5 Liter Turbo Diesel factory crate engine, 5spd, period correct Centra's and lowered just the right amount. The car looks to be in new condition. Since I've never seen a W123 with an LS conversion that is the coolest W123 I've ever seen. If Leno had one it would probably have an LSA or better.

There have been a number of sales of W123 sedans 240's, 300's and turbos over $10,000, the highest I've seen have been a 300D Turbo Sedan and a 240D at over $17,000.

The coupes seem to be able to bring even more.

Probably if he had a good example. You seem to be pretty good finding cars to test drive that you have no intention of buying. ( See the copy paste below but read the whole thread for complete context. )

It was a perfect day ,almost wanted to drive out down a long curvy hilly road and take in some views ,didnt have time though ,the day was starting to fade and I headed back after cruising .. On the way back I stopped and picked a few watermelons up at a roadside stand ,the last of the summer. When I jumped back in the car , no hesitation on startup at all ,a few revs then the clutch ,good to go.At the next light I didnt recognize I was low on diesel and stopped to put some in for the owner .A few snacks and a dollar for gas and Im back again on the road ,a perfect day.Only cost me a dollar and a troll fee and sometime to read this message..
