Post Long Gone Wagon

It's a factory color in any case .

I love the color, SWMBO looked over my shoulder and asked if we could afford it.... .

On principle, it would be easy to lock down all old threads. This would be a radically ahistorical policy, however. Forums do not lock threads for a reason: newness has nothing to do with relevance when you are dealing with 30 year old cars. If newness were any measure of value, all these cars would have been crushed long ago.

My comment is as relevant today as it would have been 10 months ago, or 10 years ago. People get interested in these cars at various points in history; someone down the line considering a color change may appreciate the fact that someone in a thread told them non-stock colors dont bring top dollar typically. Vwnate if it is stock paint I apologize; I may be thinking of a more recent auction.

A thread/comment's newness has no bearing on its value to other enthusiasts. Many of the threads I have used this year for my own projects are 10 or more years old.

Many of the most knowledgeable people about these cars are gone from the Earth. E.g. RIP Marshall booth. Their knowledge and enthusiasm live on in old threads and email listserve archives from 20 years ago,

I am about 50 years old myself. 10 months is not a long time to me. I learn new things all the time from people of all ages. Practically, many times the older people have more wisdom - just like the old threads. Old books are pretty good also. This concept is a fundamental tenet of civilization. Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it. (Santayana)

Applying the term necromance to commenting on old threads implies some level of moral failure. That concept is fundamentally flawed and worthy of refutation.

Agreed. It was not masquerading as China Blue. Many of the high dollar cars on BaT are not the standard/average colors. The rare colors get the most attention. Your average Light Ivory or Anthracite Grey do not seem to get the high dollar bids like China Blue or Signal Red cars do.

Ah - I was thinking of a more recent auction:

https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1983-mercedes-benz-300td-turbo-19/

The car in this thread has the correct look about it.

Happy Thanksgiving

Post Old Topics

I'm quite fond of this wagon's color and China Blue too, at the time I bought my (beige) gray market 300TD a member here was selling (sort of) a China Blue 300TD that had passed through many member's hands, each one did some works to it and send it along, I'd hoped to get it but the seller was unresponsive .

Threads sometimes meander here and there, I usually find this a good thing as I'm older and love to learn new things .

This forum (? these forums ?) have been a great free knowledge source for me .

The *instant* my Sweet stops driving my 300TD I'll detail it and see if BAT is interested, it's very nice and everything works, blah blah blah, it's just too darn big for me .

I miss when BAT meant Bring A Ttrailer ~ most of the vehicles offered were barn finds or jalopies .

Now they turn up their nose at good running & driving vintage trucks that need paint and brakes etc.....

I wish I was still in my 50's ~ I had far less pain then .

I have never hesitated to resurrect old threads....in fact often never realize they are old until someone puts on their domineering Nazi hat and points it out.
