pulling up seat squabs

Hi, trying to fold the rear seats in my 124 diesel Kombi / Estate. First thing I understand is to pull the squabs up but they seem to be stuck down. Feels like something mechanical is locking them in place but not sure how to release the mechanism. Any advice would be much appreciated

There is a contoured plastic handle on the outside edge of the underside of the seat squabs. It is flush with the rest of the seat so not immediately obvious - when your fingers feel like they have found grips, pull up and the whole seat section will come up.

If they haven't been flipped down in a while they can require some wiggling and (gentle) pulling to free them up.

Then you are on to the seat backs. There is a little plunger/circular tab in the door jamb, near the latch. When depressed (door closed), the seat back is locked into its upright position. When not depressed (door open), the seat back is unlocked and then can be flipped down flat. Again, this can require some wiggling and gentle pulling on the plunger and seat backs to free them up.
