I put two layers of shrink wrap on a solder job. Probably doesn't help but it makes me feel better.

I think you're paddling in the right direction with the double shrink wrap. Anything you can do to stabilize that joint will help. You might want to try the tie wrap tail trick - most of us have them lying around and they cost nothing. I just cut them short enough that they get sealed inside the shrink wrap and so are pretty well sealed from water.

I'll +1 the proper crimp. If one was to choose a connection method based on the best engineering possible and cost be darned, they would still choose a properly executed crimp and not solder.
Note: This isn't happening with Harbor Freight crimpers or terminals.
