'75 240D Rear Window Seal
Anybody have any experience replacing these? How about the Uro branded one. Could I do it myself or hand it off to a glass company with reasonable expectation that they could handle it?
I went to clean my rear window earlier and the seal has shrunk to the point that I can wiggle the window in and out which makes it a clear contender for the leak I'm experiencing at the rear. Thanks for your help in advance. -Shane- |

I removed my W123 rear window (84 300D) and reused the rubber seal as mine was still pliable. So I can only be general.
Doing it myself I had harborfreight single and a double suction cups with handles and found them invaluable for holding on to the window and to position it. Lay something like a well padded blanket on top of the Trunk so that if the Window slips it does not get damaged. Sort of the same where ever you plan to lay the window while you do other work. In my case I had rusted through holes under the rubber seal I had to deal with. That delayed the job and means the window is going to be out of the Car for a longer time then planned. That means the need for a Tarp and even if your Car is in the Drive Way it could attract thieves. Besides the thief issue I have found the local stray Cats have gotten under tarps and inside and took a nice pee inside. I'd describe it as a moderate level DIY. Have a helper, a full morning and a thorough understanding of the procedure before doing it and it should go well.
If sending the job to a glass company, confirm that they have done these before. Good luck!!!

I had the rear window channel on my 1983 300CD rebuilt at a body shop because of the usual rust-caused leak. Since rear windshields for the coupes are scarce in the extreme, I asked them to have a local glass pro R&R the glass.
I bought a new gasket from whatever source I could since there is little to no choice. It was probably a URO. In any case it was about 4 years ago and it went well. I simply do not have the courage to DIY such a job. |

People have had fitment issues with URO windshield gaskets but that is mostly on the front.
Hope someone chimes in that has actually used a URO on the rear.

I forgot to mention that if your rear window has a defrosting grid be sure to disconnect it from the wires before trying to remove it.

I just sealed around mine with RTV.
Doesn't look concours perfect but it does keep the water out.
