How to use remote engine starter?

1984 300DT. I need to rotate the engine so I can get better access to the fan clutch bolts. How do I connect this remote engine starter? (photo enclosed).

The engine doesn’t turn when you turn the power steering pulley?

The engine turned about 1/8th of a turn using the power steering pulley, then the power steering belt began to slip......

I just need to turn it a little to get to the fan clutch bolts. I cannot remember how to hook up this remote starter switch.....any help is appreciated!

One cable to bat + and the other goes to some small cable that attaches to a bolt.

I did it on my SDL just for the heck of it but never took any real note of it.

Don't forget to grease the screw and threads on the spring compressor.

OK, Phil (second post down) says to connect the remote starter to the two terminals show in the photo. Question: I am only planning on turning the engine over ONCE. Should I go ahead and remove the glow plugs to make it easier on the starter?

IMO no, it's just one revolution of the crankshaft. Won't drain, burnout or hurt a thing.

Here is what the terminal block looks like on my car (1984 300DT). I'm assuming the black and red clamps of the remote starter switch connect to the far ends on the terminal block the same way Phil did it (post above)?

I connected the red lead to the left most terminal, black lead to the right most terminal. Pressed the button and only a "click", engine didn't move. Decided to connect a battery charger and let it charge up before trying again........looks like the battery is down a little.....I am going to go ahead and remove the glow plugs....

Screwdriver stuck between the + cable from the battery to the little terminal. Don't over complicate super basic stuff...

Stick a few layers of shop towel under the belt as it enters the pulley and that will tighten it up a bit, or grab the belt and pull up on a bit by hand while turning at the P/S pump pulley. Has never failed me.

Could also just grab the crank pulley and turn it, use some muscles!

I've never needed a bump starter in 15+ years....

...or a deep 27mm socket and 1/2inch drive ratchet wrench placed on the crankshaft bolt, and turned clockwise.

That's how I do my valve adjustments.

Also my technique for turning the engine.

And merely to clarify:
Clockwise from the standpoint of one facing the engine.
