Fans can spin freely and blow normally and still be shot. They will draw massive amounts amperage and have jagged waveforms from open commutators, case in point.

It's not bearings, it's the motor itself.

Also information on how to test any 12v fan, radiator, blower etc for opens.

One winding could be shorted on the fan motor. If you bench test it and see excessive arcing between the brushes and commutator, its toast.

Doesn't the 79 300SD come with the evil ACC 2 servo?

Answered my own question: yes it is.

I've seen all sorts of nightmares with this system. Could the servo be drawing more power instead of the blower motor? I know common sense dictates blower motor and/or aux pump but I wouldn't rule out the whole servo box itself.

I would disconnect the blower motor first and play with the HVAC system to make sure the servo isn't the culprit.

FIXED! It was in fact the blower motor. I took one out of another car and wired it up and no melting fuse and it doesn't even get hot. I also fixed the Hi Lo Bi controller. The vacuum connection on the back of the climate control unit was completely disconnected. Hooked it back up and everything is perfect.
