W115 engine removal

I’m at the removal point of this engine swap, but don’t see super obvious locations to loft the engine out. I have the worm gear deal, i know I take the trans out at the same time and use the worm attach thing to tilt the motor...i’m pretty sure it’s two threaded holes on the block front and back...tips are appreciated!

It may still have loops from the factory attached or otherwise you can usually use threaded holes that are there for something else. Be sure to get some good threads, I't want about an inch of depth and at least 3/8" thick or so. Don't forget to unhook the tranny crossmember and the engine to chassis ground down on the side of the bell housing or block.

Good luck!

Whatcha up to with it?

Thanks!

I've already disconnected that stuff..

I'm attempting an engine upgrade, putting a turbo 617 into it. Not much wrong with the engine I'm pulling except that it's gutless, as designed.

You are not going to be able to install a turbo engine in it unless you come up with some sort of oil filter relocation as the factory oil filter housing will not clear the firewall/cross member.

There are lots of aftermarket options out there such as this: A-MB107 Oil Filter Adapter Kit for OM617

Don't forget to disconnect the oil pressure sender line either.

Engine is out, after my jack was low on fluid...then the plunger came apart...from
Bad to worse. But engine did not fall so that’s good. Ended up buying a replacement jack at harbor freight. What I did for the engine hoist points was simply rob the ones from the 617 that will be going into it. Duh!!

Well, THAT won't work. Better put the engine back in and find another way!
