Hey Jarod, I'm seeing the same as h3ffe, about 28-29mpg in my 83 240D with an OM617, 2.88 diff, and a 4 speed manual. I've got the super light aluminum 14" wheels with hubcaps.

Unless you guys swapped in the speedometer along with the diff, your indicated mileage will be off, therefore your MPG will not be accurate.

I agree - are your reported MPG mileage based on google/GPS mileage or the 35 year old odometer in the car? These odometers are VERY inaccurate - even when working and rebuilt. Even more so when you swap the diff/manual.

Measure by phone/GPS and an app system and you will probably find 27-30.

My Previous 81 240D manual averaged 32mpgs summer mostly town driving. (About 3 mpgs less winter)
My current 81 240D manual I'm lucky to see 27.

One issue with GPS distance traveled measurements might be the effect of hills. Viewed from the sky, one might drive SQT 2 miles but change elevation 1 mile, making it appear one has driven 1 mile on GPS ( yes, I know this is a very steep hill and not a complete triangle but this is just to illustrate a point )

GPS might calculate for this but it is going to be device dependent. I also wonder if Google maps compensates for hills.

swap

Do it! I am curious to see how your figures are. I greatly prefer the KKK turbo to the Garrett T3. as it spools quicker and makes my stop-and-go in LA much more pleasurable. It runs out of breath a little sooner than the T3 on the top end, but that is almost of no consequence. It gets better mileage than it did with the Garrett as well.

I should get it running again first... funny how one simple fix disables my stuff for months.

Its a 82 300D, kkk swapped, 4 speed swapped, and 2.87 rear end ratio.

My 80 SD usually averaged around 25 with no highway, mostly all 55mph roads in NY.

Now that I'm in TN I've noticed mpg numbers fall off the edge of the planet in everything I own thanks to hills in every direction and 35ish mph speed limits on most roads I drive.

Don't ask about any of my trucks mpg...
