What do you guys see on this 300SDL

I love the color combo on this 300SDL. I am thinking about buying it for my son's first car. He likes the idea, also.

It's priced a bit high, but it sure looks nice to me.

What do you guys see? I have no experience with the 6 cylinder diesels.

Exclamation Junkyard Car

It's a _JOKE_ ! .

You're even considering buying an over priced car from a JUNKYARD ?! .

There are indeed fine cars, you need to learn how to look at the casting # on the cylinder head to ensure it's been replaced then a car like this with ice cold AC and a clean non salvage title, is well under $K in So. Cal., just go look .

You're going to LOVE the car, make no mistake .

Just don't go falling in love with how one looks and buy a car that needs a $2,000.00 valve job right away in addition to the other $1,500 worth of hoses, brakes, , battery and other neglected routine maintenance all used cars need .

If you -really- like this particular one and you're positive it's never been wrecked, and the AC is ice cold, offer $3.500 in cash in person (not over the 'phone or E-Mail) and they'll either bite or tell you to flake off .

My guess is that it has a lot over 300k in miles. Says odometer is broken. Why not have a mechanic look it over? But do not make an offer until you take a closer look.

Thanks for the comments guys. I'm still going to check it out. I know to look for a #17 or #22 head, or at least something after #14

Seeing how SDL's are becoming seldomly sold and rare, buy it i IF it's well sorted.

Make sure you see it start STONE COLD, there should be NO SMOKE or rough idle. If it has either walk away.

Have the suspension checked out, if the ball joints, tie rods, control bushings are shot, walkaway.

Don't forget to grease the screw and threads on the spring compressor.

I call first dibs on the wheels after your son decides to put a set of 18s or something on it, ok?

im Confused as to why you pass on a car if it needs control arm bushings or ball joints. Any car will need them at some point. And to the average DIY, those are all easy. I do have to say control arm bushings aren’t easy without the right tools. But still not a huge deal. Anyone inclined can accomplish the suspension a w126 easily.

That won't happen, but if it does you can have the wheels free.

Listed as an "SE" that would be a gasser. Also SE would be short wheelbase S class, photos look like the long wheelbase. I would bet that is not advertised honestly, besides the fact of the mileage. Wouldn't doubt if it is a hodgepodge vehicle without seeing an engine bay Photograph.

I'd be delighted to pay for the shipping and blankets to wrap them to prevent damage.

The interior is mix and match. It has the pinkamino windlace and grab bars with what looks like blue interior either MBtex or leather from a gen 1 w126.

Anyway, it's been removed from ebay's listings.

Okay, I take back the suspension stuff, but W126 suspension overall is more expensive and so are the special tools.
I'm afraid of and intimidated by W126 suspension. It seems complex.

It’s just a bunch of nut and bolts.

Improvising and making your own tools are a thing too. Be careful with the advice you give, to scare someone away on something as simple as suspension work any car will need at some point isn’t something I’d do. The W126s are as simple as a piece of cake. Any Benz is pretty easy to work on.

Where do you see listed as an SE?

Although hodgepodge may be correct.
