windshield wipers only work on high
The wipers on my 1982 240d 360k miles are only working on high?
Does this mean the motor is starting to fail? Thanks, pete |
Bad contacts in the wiper switch. You have good ground and power, you are just missing control or input.

On my 1981 240D, I had the wipers not stopping in the right place and sometimes not working. There is a wiper relay behind the fuel/oil/temp gauge of the cluster. That solved it for me.

Is there any way to take apart the wiper switch? I don't see any small screws. I might be able to pry the end off with a small screwdriver.
Any ideas? Thanks, Pete |
Update - The problem was with the switch. The bad switch would only work on high and the wipers would not park.
I removed a switch from the junk yard and now the wipers work perfectly. For a 1982 240D you need a hex socket and not a 27mm socket like you do on other w123's. I have 363k on the car. Hopefully this helps someone with a similar problem. pete |
