Shouldn't an 87 300 D be easy to sell?

Rust free.
Needs a head...
White body.
Tinted windows.
I'm thinking scrap...

It's hard to sell any non running car that needs work for a reasonable price. Why not put a head on it yourself?

I was offered an '87 300TD with rebuilt tranny and bad clear coat for $1,800 so mayhap these cars are going the way of the Dodo bird .

It always depends on the asking price, no regular people want to buy and old Mercedes Diesel anymore .

Yup... I could replace the head or head gasket, get it running, buff it up and take a hundred pics by a yacht club on a sunny day, and likely get 15K for it...
But I have 9 cars to move...
So, if anybody adventurous wants to shine up a creampuff amazing car, I'm willing to move it for ya.
Trans shifts great, the car ran amazing when I sold it to my employee, but something on the cooling system wasnt perfect, and he was no mechanic. I always did everything for him.
Anyway, he defaulted on paying for the car when it started losing coolant and brought it back to me... so
...
Come get it if you would like a great project car.

Prices tanked ever since gas got cheap. 5 year old cars are far more efficient and safer for not much more money.

I've got several great cars here to clear out of my yard...

87190D turbo with a bad ignition cylinder, and needs a flex disc.

84 300SD needs nothing, runs great, blue dash badly cracked.

85 300D minor rear damage, needs engine and trans installed.

84 300D euro 4 speed, rust ridden body panels, bit is a great runner and driver.

87 300TD wagon, needs delivery valve seals, and a carwash.

87 300TD wagon needs an IP, it runs on 3 cylinders fine, just no fuel to the other 3.

87 300TD wagon needs reassembled several suspension parts removed. Needs a radiator, has a FANTASTIC RUNNING ENGINE WITH#22 head on it. Body heavily dented all around, several layers of bondo... perfect condition leather palomino interior...

I mean... yeah, I have a few cars needing homes.

Nope. No one wants an old car they have to work on. Select few like these projects and no one can afford to shell thousands to a shop to fix a car that’s worth $1000. I’d never pay $15k for one of these cars. Makes no sense. The w124 diesels are getting more rare but they’re out there. Been there done that with the w124s quite a few times.

Don’t get me wrong, I still love those cars but I certainly don’t want these projects anymore. I’ll keep my w210s they’re easy to work on and pretty damn reliable.

Yeah, tell me about it.

The glory days of old diesel benz ownership was the 2000s and early 2010s when NOS after market parts were plentiful and the yards were full of these beauties.

Now, they're as rare as every other old car.

I guess that's what happens when you cross the 30 year old threshold

W210 Diesel

Jake12tech, speaking of w210’s, here’s one with only 97k miles in Phoenix.

https://phoenix.craigslist.org/evl/cto/d/chandler-mercedes-benz-e300-diesel/6806632273.html

PS - After having had a 90 300E back in college and vowing never to own another w124, I currently possess a 87 300D that I am starting to fix stuff on, but only because I was given the car for free. We’ll see how it goes.

And before there was a glut of cars that get 30+ mpg. The big selling point for my first 123 was the amazing fuel economy...imagine 27 mpg in a luxe car. Today, anything with wheels can do better.
