OM 617 alternator connection ?

I'm putting '85 om617 into a '74 ford 100. The 617 came pretty much bare bones. I'm looking for an alternator plug if anyone knows where I can get one, or if not which terminals go to what on the alternator. Do you think I could get by using crimp on wire connects into the alternator if I can't find a plug?

Thanks
Greg

Your best bet is to upgrade to the higher amp alternator (115 amp fits right in just do a search) and it does not use the original connector - just simple nut. Also it’s good to run a separate ground for the alternator since it grounds through the mountings and that can get oily etc.

Send me a pm I probably have a couple of those connectors for the original alternator around somewhere and will be happy to send you one if I can find it.

Agreed, the AL29X 115 amp alternator upgrade is worthwhile.

Here's the DIY thread for 'Desert Rose'.

Wiring info is on Post # 5.

Greg ;

The two BIG connectors are for unfused direct to battery connections .

The single smaller connection goes to the dashboard light, if you ground it, the light should come on when the key is on .

Just go with what you've got for now, the larger amperage alternator will come cheaply in due time .

FWIW, the 1985 OM617 came with a heavier duty alternator than all other W123's, it'll be fine .
