Standard height of 1987 300D?s

Does anyone know what the standard height off the ground a 1987 300D is supposed to ride? I just put new shocks on the front to try and fix the problem, but still if i hit a turn to fast or too big of a dip in the road, my tires rub. Im leaning towards the idea that my springs may be shot, but still unsure. I think they may be original and the car has 451k miles on it. suggestions? its really starting to get annoying when i rub. im constantly trying to avoid it...

Shocks do not control ride height unless they are coil over shocks (adjustable) or air shocks. The shocks dampen the occiliations of the springs. Mercedes coil springs are normally shimmed with rubber shims located in the spring pockets.

I'm pretty sure there are no shims on mine (as I have had to remove them before and never remember seeing any). What do said shims look like?

@tjts1 no it's riding too low. if i look up at the shocks, there's only 6ish inches of clearance that the shock can move (even though they are capable of a bit more)

What size tires? What size and offset wheels? OE wheels are 15J6,5 ET49 (oval slots). Later 124s have 15J6,5 ET48 (rectangular slots). Similar wheels from a 126 or 107 are 15J7 ET25 or 15J6,5 ET21,5 (both oval slots).

When comparing ride height with another car, measure from the center of the wheel to the top of the fender opening. That way tire size isn’t a factor.

If the rubber pads are missing from the tops of the springs, and the springs are tired or have broken, that would definitely lower the ride height and could cause your issue. You should be able to see the edge of the rubber pad at the top of the spring, and it should have 1, 2, or 3 little nubs that indicate how thick it is.
