Ail Cleaner Rubber Mounts
*Very* interesting .
I too tired of the cheapo ones breaking once every year or so and decided to only use the M-B ones from the Classic Center, they last years and I carry spares and change them as soon as I see one broken . My '84 greymarket turbo wagon is glassine smooth yet the 'T' bracket parted at the spot welds...... Go figure .

I guess the age old fix for this has been lost to time, so here it is. Remove broken mounts. Drill a hole in the side of the air cleaner on the valve cover side. Mount one of your broken mounts into the hole you drilled. When you reinstall the cleaner this will rest against the valve cover and stabilize the shaking of the cleaner. Your mounts will last much longer.

Nice mod Squiggle Dog! You're definitely right about needing rubber on both sides to retain vibration isolation with a through-bolt, and being careful to snug but not compress the rubber when tightening the nut. If the rubber is compressed, the bushings simply become rigid spacers.
Pelican sells our mounts for less than $2 each (their part# 617-988-01-11-INT), so periodic replacement isn't bad other than the time spent doing it. |

^ Interesting, we'll have Engineering check the rubber compound of current inventory. Does lifespan seem to have a direct correlation to the amount of engine vibration?
We use the same type of rubber as OEM, but if heat shields help, perhaps a more heat-resistant material would be better. We'll evaluate this. |

My URO mounts lasted a month on a engine that vibrated a lot (dead cylinder), then the engine died. I did have heat shields on them, and will put them on to my OM617 when I get it installed.
URO complete tie rod assembly lasted me roughly 2 months before the outer had more play than the original one I replaced. Not sure if it's a fluke, but doesn't really inspire confidence in your products. Between the things that people have said regarding the quality of URO parts and my own experience with them, I am hesitant to spend any more money on them.

Just checked with Engineering, turns out we discontinued that mount about ten months ago and don't have any left. It's currently being redeveloped, the new one will hopefully be available in nine to twelve months.
When the new ones are available, we'd be happy to provide them to anyone who had the old ones fail as a warranty replacement. We'll post an update to the thread when we're ready. |

Beat me to it. Did this on my 123 wagon, mounts were still fine a couple years later when I sold it.

Actually plenty came of it. The truth is we scrapped a considerable amount of inventory and ceased production of that seal three months ago in response to the feedback and engineering evaluation, and the seal is currently being redesigned. The new seal is being thinned to the correct thickness/profile, and shortened to the correct length.
We'll let everyone know when the new seal is available in about nine months, and will be happy to provide warranty replacements to anyone who purchased the old seal. |

FYI, 81-85 126 side sunroof seals are needed. They were NLA the last time I looked and every 126 is in need of new seals. Also, tail light gaskets that work and aren't $50 each would be appreciated.

If they did fail after a month and you are unhappy, that is like saying " I bought new tires, ran them over glass then got a flat. " |

Just because they bought an expensive car on the cheap they seem to think parts prices should have fallen accordingly. |
