We'll let everyone know when the new seal is available in about nine months, and will be happy to provide warranty replacements to anyone who purchased the old seal.
Hmm....so the back and forth I did with Uro was back in June of 2017 with the final email I sent being July 2 2017 (with NO RESPONSE I might add...). You're saying it took nearly two years to finally decide that the part needed attention due to poor fit and function? What is the point of your warranty on a part like that if the replacement that comes STILL doesn't fit or allow movement of the roof? The old part was taken out of production 3 months ago, but the new one won't be ready for 9 months? Does that mean that you're still selling the old version that doesn't fit and jams the sunroof because it doesn't compress and allow the roof panel past? That rat smell is getting stronger.

I'm not beating on you personally, please know that. But Üro has a reputation for crap parts for many VERY good reasons. Reputation carries a lot of clout and a bad one is hard to turn around.

How far down does this cup extend and what is the mount OD / cup ID? I'm betting what others are calling heat shields are actually limiters ( Buffers ) for when the mount is loaded in shear.

As per my prior post, shear strength is very limited compared to compression.

This is another miss instillation / short life possibility.

last time I had to replace a air cleaner mount, got a good price off ebay. You really have to shop around - some of the price tags are unreasonable.
Anyway, before I installed it I wrapped the rubber of the mount horizontally with silicone tape. Just to give it a little more protection from the heat and elements.

Silicone tape is like thick electrical tape with no glue that sticks to itself when you stretch it. Relatively strong and resistant to just about anything.

The heat shield or buffer cap mounts on the air filter bracket first and the mount fits into the heat shield. The shield protects the rubber about 90%. Each of the three mounts requires a heat shield. I can’t tell you the shield ID or OD other than the rubber mount fits closely within the metal heat shield.

Given the reletive dimensions, I'd say the buffers are an integral part of the mount system in that they stiffen the mount in shear. In this case, anyone that installs mounts without buffers and experiences a failure should fault themselves and not the mount.

Hi Diseasel300, please check your email inbox again, we responded on July 5th, 2017 at 10:41am. As you'll read, your detailed July 2nd email is precisely what put this seal redesign in motion.

Good morning (redacted), thank you for the very detailed information!

I have forwarded your email to our engineering department for further analysis, and will update you as I know more. I expect your information will result in changes to the seal design, and we will be sure to get you the new version as soon as it is available.

We really appreciate your help debugging this seal, it’s always a challenge reproducing soft rubber items that are very difficult to measure consistently.

---------------------------

Sorry it's such a long, slow process, but we do have you down to receive the very first production unit of the new version. Thank you for your patience!

I'll hold you to that too. Given that this is public knowledge on a public forum, you can expect an unbiased and unrestrained review on it too. We know my thoughts on the previous version, the redesigned version should be a winner if it's actually test-fit on a car before it ships.

No, we scrapped our entire inventory, which was substantial. If any of our customers try to order them, they'll see that the seals are "out of stock" in our system.

I bought these
https://www.ebay.com/itm/3-For-Mercedes-W116-W123-W126-240D-300D-300SD-Air-Cleaner-Mount-URO-6179880111/152175553343?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649

but for some reason they sent me the hex shaped vaico brand - fine with me!

Great, so the URO mounts I just ordered from Amazon are no better than whatever I have on there now.

Are the hex style mounts any good? I saw them online too, but had no experience with them.

Your mounts will last much longer.
I’ve had good luck with this fix. Mounts last much longer. I bolstered the extra buffer by using fender washers on each side of the drilled hole.

That sucks, but I'm glad you guys are addressing the situation - even if slowly.

The fact that you're on here interacting and actually doing something about says a lot.

I prefer OEM of course, but I've bought many URO parts over the years and have been generally satisfied. Thanks for keeping these items available for such an old generation of cars.

Hi Junkman, here's the latest from our product development folks:
  • They looked into those sunroof side seals a while back, but they're quite difficult to manufacture so the project was shelved indefinitely. Sorry, these probably aren't going to happen.

  • Good news on the tail light gaskets, they shouldn't be any trouble and are now officially "in development"! Thanks for the suggestion, PM us your shipping details and we'll send you a pair when they become available in 12-18 months.
