Good point about getting the part by VIN. Compare the old to the new/replacement parts very carefully and don't throw the old parts away until the job is finished. Diagnosing a problem that new parts should have fixed; but, didn't because they were either wrong or defective can get very frustrating.

On this note are rebuild kits available for the slave and master cylinders? Should be relatively easy to do if the bores aren't pitted.

IIRC there is a plastic shim/spacer between the slave cylinder and the bell housing that cracks sometime. You may wish to source it in advance.

Good luck!!!

Alright - just got done removing the master cylinder. Did not have to lie down under the dash. It was much easier get on the knee in front of the door. Did get under for a bit with a flash light to look where everything was.
First, i removed the spring attached to the clutch (just a pin and it easily popped out). Used a 1/2 wrench to remove the master cylinder from the clutch (pressed clutch with one hand and other to unbolt). Loosen the metal line under the cylinder with 12mm. And removed the 2 bolts attached the firewall using 10mm (had to use 2 10mm to hold the other side of the bolt - it was easy). Now removed the rubber hose from brake oil container which i pulled while removing the master cylinder. Now, removed the metal line at bottom of cylinder.
Now - I mistaking ordered the wrong master cylinder - the rod was longer with the new one i got. Have to reorder with shorter rod. Also will order the MB braided hose as mentioned by "sonnymorrow".
I am planing to replace the salve cylinder, as well. Hopefully, be all done within a week or so...
And should i drain brake fluid or no need?
Thanks

Many have been very frustrated when this attempted repair goes wrong, due to wrong parts.
What phone number is for MB Classic Center? (i'd also need the slave cylinder so i'll check to confirm the part numbers) Thanks

866 MB CLASSIC

Do you need to drain the brake fluid? Not needed but it would be an ideal time to flush the brakes and not introduce any old fluid into the new clutch hydraulics.

Good luck!

Going to call the MB Classic to get all the part numbers. Any other part i should order - other than Master Clutch Cylinder, Slave Clutch Cylinder and reservoir braided hose.

Any hoses, connections etc.. to the slave cylinder i should replace or to make the job easier.

Exclamation Clutch Hydraulics

Yes,it needs replacing or at least a proper rebuilding with new rubber bits .

They age out and since you're already having leaks, the slave cylinder is the lowest thing in the system so the water and debris settle there, if it's not weeping yet it'll fail soon .

Quick question.
I got under the car to take a quick look at the slave cylinder and put some WD40 on the all the bolts. Planning to remove it this weekend - does not look that bad (240d so have more room to work).
But i noticed allot oil around transmission area - should this be concern - see pictures.

Try to see where the oil is leaking from before cleaning it. If you cannot locate the leak clean the area and monitor it. Check all fluids and top them off, then monitor to see if any lessen but remember the engine may burn and leak oil. The amount of oil in the picture does not concern me but watch it regularly. Not knowing what is leaking is concerning, try to identify the source.

Re the clutch hydraulic work, order the high pressure black flexible hose between the slave cylinder and the master cylinder. It looks like a brake hose.

Begin soaking the bleeder screws with penetrating oil at each wheel if flushing the brakes.

Good luck!!!

So. I started to remove the slave cylinder. Took about 5 minutes to get both 13mm bolt removed (I used Offset Box End Wrench and also WD40 day before on the bolts ). I didn't remove the hard line from the slave.
I removed it from rubber connection to the firewall but was not able remove out yet - it looks like it is clamped onto gearbox on the 17mm bolt - do i need to remove that bolt?

You'd best remove the hard line first....
