The air dam can't be further forward than the farthest forward point of the bumper though they will allow it to be forward by the thickness of the material it's made from. In my case the bumper has a rubber bump strip and the air dam tucks just under that strip so I'm fully compliant but it's still pretty much as far forward as it can go.
I run a hard tonneau (aluminum with an aluminum substructure) and that works well. Any slight advantage of shortening the exhaust would be negated by the residue left on the body. To quote an engineer friend of mine, "A difference isn't a difference unless it makes a difference." I highly doubt trimming the pipe would help but if a trip to the wind tunnel showed an advantage I would, of course, do that. I'd LOVE to do a trip to A2 wind tunnel but given the rules I have to race under I don't see that as a good return on investment. Any improvement would be, at best, subtle. It sounds like the truck has evolved from the bang shift pics.
But what if we put MERCEDES AMG Petronas F1 / AMG World Challenge brought to you by Blancpain /OFFICIAL TEAMZ SUPPORT VEHICLE on the truck then sneak it into the wind tunnel ? Wind Tunnel - Mercedes AMG F1 Careers And this leads to, anyone have a contact at a university with an aero dept? A student might be looking for a project. Many times a guy that knows a guy that knows a guy leads to help not attainable by the first guy. About nobody gets beyond basic racing without some sort of connection ( or drug sales ) . Once one knows the secret handshake, help is much easier to find. As an example, I know the guys that did race prep and Scientific Pontification on the 2003 Mustang that in 2008 broke the C/Production Supercharged World Land Speed Record of 232.27 at Bonneville Team Saline - About Page The car owner has a fair sized business and was able to self fund to a certain level. Once Ford found out Steve was going for the record, engines and support flowed like water. From what I remember, they got 3 engines and " If you break one, send it back and we will send another ". The car even went to a rolling road wind tunnel for development. ( Jim and Bill told me how the rolling road design was secret and the basement was off limits. ) This support didn't last forever but it did attain the record. While there isn't the "we can sell more Mustangs" draw that a S10 with a MB engine has, there may be someone interested in taking up the cause since it is unique. I'm thinking one of the many car build shows on TV or the net may be interested in offering some level of support. |
