The buzzer that goes off when the glow plugs are heating up or when you leave your keys in the ignition is randomly going off while driving. Thought it was the door switch but it is working. It usually starts off in reverse but sometimes while driving. Its driving me batty. Any ideas?

I think it’s a seat belt reminder, not a glow reminder.

Yes, that buzzer is annoying...would be less so if it was a single frequency, but it's a mechanical-electric type with make-break contacts, so the sound is very irregular. Some day I'll hunt mine down and cut it out or replace it with a modern piezo buzzer from Allied Electronics, Mouser, or Digi-Key...if you find it, please let us know where it is, taking a pic if possible...thanks...

If the buzzer is coming on with things it shouldn't be activated by, it usually indicates you have a poor ground somewhere, probably behind the dash or in the instrument cluster. The 124/late 126 buzzer is transistorized and highly sensitive to crappy grounds feeding back through it. My SDL had this issue, shifting into reverse, hitting the brake pedal, opening ANY door with the headlights on, you'd get this sick squealing noise from it that just wouldn't stop. Sanding and cleaning the ground points behind the cluster and the center console fixed the issue in my car.

Okay. After some testing I found that if you remove the green and the green and red wires from this plug behind the gauge pod (which pulls straight off with some bent wire hanger shaped like a dentist pick) it silences the key buzzer.

Now I have a headlight buzzer, dome light and NO key buzzer to randomly bother me.

Now to fix the clock

It seems counter intuitive, but if you put your seatbelt on first before starting the car the buzzer doesn't buzz.

It will also remind you that your lights are on and that your key is in the ignition. Definitely in position 2, not sure if it will buzz in position 1.

It still reminds me of the lights. It would randomly go off while driving and sounded horrible when waiting for the glow cycle. It did not turn off with the seat belt.


Ill probably look for a different sound generator that is less intrusive.
