Engine tap sound 83 300cd , certain rpms , smokes some , intermittent
 

I believe this has been a long Parker , it’s run well but after 3000 miles I’ve Driven her and it’s been starting to beg for some service which is a tappet sound . It happens after I’ve driven a bit and come down to a stop light , It taps like a gas car under a load like pulling a trailer and you get on the throttle . I can put it in idle then rev to like 3000 rpm and it goes away . Intermittent and will happen only after it’s been up to say 60 mph then come down to a stop , not always though . It has new injectors , valve adjustment by the previous owner . Runs cool and has a been checked for compression , all good.

Is it randomized clattering, or is it specific to one cylinder? If it's randomized and sounds like predetonation on a gas engine, the EGR valve may be sticking. My SD's was stuck wide open and the noise and smoke was epic.
